DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan’s U.S. Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed says he supports Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland to become the Senate majority leader.
El-Sayed said on CNN Thursday that he thinks Van Hollen would be an amazing Senate majority leader, but says it’s a choice the Maryland Senator has to make for himself.
The Michigan Democrat added “it seems like he’s quite interested in another goal politically” as Van Hollen’s name has been bantered about for a presidential run in 2028.
Along with El-Sayed, newly elected Democratic senators from Kansas, Illinois, and Maine have also said they will not support Senator Chuck Schumer of New York to be the majority leader.
