KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan voters approved election reforms last November and Kalamazoo voters made use of the new rules when they voted on November 5th.
Kalamazoo County Clerk Tim Snow says dozens took advantage of a new law permitting residents to register right up to election day and a lot more people took advantage of the state’s new “no-excuse” absentee ballots, with more than half voting absentee in some precincts.
He says turnout countywide was average, just over 17%, but more voters appeared in areas with local issues and contested races.
He expects those numbers to grow because 2020 will be a presidential election year.
