KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department is reporting that a suspect has been arrested in a vehicle larceny case as of Wednesday.
According to an official press release, officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Croyden Avenue for a report of a purse stolen from a motor vehicle.
An investigation revealed that the suspect had waited for the homeowner to return home. Upon arriving, the suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and stole her purse. A suspect was developed and taken into custody.
The purse was recovered and charges will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
“We would like to remind our community to not leave running vehicles unattended, do not leave valuables in your vehicle, and keep your vehicles locked,” the department said in a statement.
This case is only one of many recent cases of larceny in the area. The department notes that robberies and larcenies increase during the holiday season, and that officers will work diligently and proactively to curb these crimes.
Police say they have taken a proactive approach by adding several extra officers to patrol in the affected areas. Police have made note of the following recent activities:
- Submitted a case to the prosecutor’s office for larceny from motor vehicle that occurred on an unspecified date.
- Worked collaboratively with the Barry County Sheriff’s Department regarding the recovery of a stolen vehicle and prosecution of those suspects.
Anyone with information into any of the above cases is asked to contact the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department at 269-488-8911 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
