KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An apartment fire that occurred in Kalamazoo Monday is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office, according to a statement from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS).
Around 2:30 p.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of East Cork Street for a report of a structure fire. When officers arrived, smoke was observed coming from the main floor of the multi-story residential building.
Officers entered the apartment building and located the fire in a first-floor apartment. According to a report from the department, they were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes and are currently still on scene.
The occupants were not home at the time of the incident, and no other tenants were injured.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation at this time.

This is only the latest fire to occur in the Kalamazoo area. On Sunday night, officers responded to a fire in the 200 Block of East Clay Street, which is also under investigation.
