KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Now that we have moved our clocks forward for Daylight Savings, the Kalamazoo Bicycle Club has rolled their bikes out.
The club is launching their 2018 season with their first ride at 5:30 p.m. on Monday beginning at Texas Drive Park.
Vice President of the Kalamazoo Bicycle Club John Olbrot says drivers should look out for more cyclists on the road as spring gets closer.
Commuters in Kalamazoo and Portage also have the “Give Them 5, Keep Them Alive” law that motorists must stay 5 feet away when passing bikers.
And as the club prepares for their first ride of the season, Michigan lawmakers are still debating driving and biking safety.
The state House is considering a bill that would make drivers keep a distance of only 3 feet when passing bicyclists on the road.
Olbrot says he hopes the state can reconsider, but he added that three feet is still better than no feet throughout the state.
