KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The final assessment of last month’s flood damage in Kalamazoo County has identified 210 homes and 32 businesses were impacted in one degree or another.
Officials estimate the total damage at $2.5-million which is far less than the $11-million suffered during the flooding in 2008, and the county could not qualify for federal help then. They may not this time either.
Kalamazoo City Manager Jim Ritsema says they are working with the township, the foundations and agencies to come up with local grants for essential repairs.
Seven homes and 12 businesses suffered what was described as “major damage.”
Over half the homes that saw some damage are located in the Lakewood neighborhood in Kalamazoo Township.
