BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Even when you force smokers outside, apparently you aren’t always safe.
Battle Creek police believe a cigarette butt flicked into a trashcan behind a home was responsible for a fire that caused $2000 damage to a home at 103 Jericho.
They responded during the noon hour Saturday and found the home full of smoke and the back side of the house on fire.
They were able to contain the flames and most of the damage to the exterior of the home. The occupants had evacuated the place prior to their arrival.
Firefighters ventilated the home to remove the smoke and left.
