JONES (WKZO AM/FM) — An explosion and fire at the Bair Lake Bible Camp in Cass County has seriously injured the facilities manager at the summer facility in Jones.
Cass County deputies say that 44-year-old David Stiles was doing maintenance in a cabin at 9:20 a.m. Sunday when a propane tank exploded.
The severity of his injuries prompted deputies to call for a MedFlight helicopter ambulance to take him to South Bend Memorial.
The explosion left the cabin burning, which was extinguished by the Newburg Township Fire Department.
It remains under investigation.
Sheriff Richard Behnke is also reminding people to be extra careful with propane tanks because they can easily ignite and cause severe injuries.
He says If anyone ever hears or smells the rotten egg propane smell, they should leave the area and contact emergency services immediately.
