KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A 4-legged co-worker with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is now better protected thanks to a special donation.
The 3rd active patrol K9 with Kalamazoo County named Roseco has received a bullet and stab protective vest from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s.
Vested Interest was established in 2009 with its main mission to provide vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement throughout the U.S. So far, they have provided over 3,000 vests in all 50 states through private and corporate donations, totaling about $5.7 million dollars.
Roseco’s $950-dollar vest is sponsored by the Officer Collin Rose Memorial Foundation and will be embroidered in memory of the fallen officer.
The 20-month-old German Shepherd’s name honors Officer Rose who was killed while on patrol at Wayne State University in Detroit back in November of 2016.
