KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Firehouse Subs, when they aren’t dishing out the submarine sandwiches are also raising money for fire departments around the country.
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has just awarded a $28,000 grant to the Oshtemo Fire Department to pay for the replacement of worn protective coats, pants, helmets and boots which are especially designed and must meet specifications.
They are worn for every call and wear out faster than most of the gear they use.
The Plainwell Fire Department will receive two automated chest compression systems which are used as life-saving devices.
They aid in the delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in the critical magic minutes following a heart attack.
That’s about a $30,000 grant.
The chain has franchises all over the country and have given millions to help local firefighting efforts.
They held a ceremony today at the Firehouse Sub Shop on Drake to show off the new gear and shake hands.
