KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — What was the actual bill for clearing out a tent city and cleaning up Bronson Park?
TV-8 is reporting that they looked at the actual bills obtained through the Freedom of Information act and the total bill was just over $15,000.
That’s down considerably from an earlier estimate of about $25,000.
Documents show that they spent about $4500 for labor to clean up the park, just over $2000 for cleaning equipment and $3100 to dispose of the waste and replant grass.
Police overtime cost about $5500.
The city may recoup some of that money in the fines paid by the protesters who were ticketed and arrested, but it won’t cover all the costs.
This comes after about a month of protesting and camping from residents pushing city officials to help Kalamazoo’s homeless population and eventually the eviction out of Bronson Park.
