BANGOR TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Bangor Township man is facing seven charges from allegedly holding his wife hostage and threatening to kill Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies Friday night.
33-year-old William McCoy was arraigned in South Haven Monday on the charges after he violated a personal protection order when he barricaded himself in a back bedroom of his wife’s home and would not surrender or allow her to leave.
His father called 9-1-1 around 11 p.m. Friday and told dispatchers he was afraid his son was going to assault the woman.
McCoy was not allowed to have any contact with the woman and was not legally allowed to be in the home.
He eventually walked out of the bedroom with a baseball bat and threatened to use it to kill the officers before he threw it at them and went back to the room.
McCoy also threw a knife at a deputy before he was arrested after a lengthy negotiation.
No one was hurt, and he is held on a $600,000 cash/surety bond. His next court date is January 9.
