PORTAGE (WKZO-AM/FM) — A suspect in the armed robbery of a convenience store in Schoolcraft Township is jailed after reportedly ramming a police cruiser, then leading officers on foot chase.
The armed robbery occurred Tuesday in the 11000 block of Portage Road. The suspected getaway vehicle was found at the McDonald’s on Portage Road and Center Avenue.
When authorities tried to make contact with the suspect, the suspect intentionally struck a Portage Public Safety cruiser, then attempted to flee on foot, according to a press release from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect was captured by Portage officers a short distance away.
While searching the vehicle, officers found suspected items used in the robbery and cash taken from the store.
The suspect was jailed on multiple charges and was also reportedly wanted for questioning in other ongoing cases throughout the county.
