LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – State lawmakers have approved the budget for Fiscal Year 2025.
Senator Sean McCann of Kalamazoo says it has $3 million in tornado relief for Kalamazoo County and $10 million to replenish the Disaster Emergency Contingency Fund.
Other highlighs accoring to the Democrat are $5 million for a mixed income housing development in Portage, $750,000 for El Concilio/Hispanic American Council for new facilities, and $350,000 for Kalamazoo Valley Community College to enhance broadband capacity on campus.
Republicans have criticized the budget as being “balanced on the backs of taxpayers and teachers.” Senator Joseph Bellino says it relies on taking $670 million out of the state’s retirement fund for teachers and not cutting the personal income tax.
The budget was approved this morning after a marathon session that started Wednesday.
