KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo is one of the locations in Michigan that will get special or enhanced air quality monitoring next year as part of the state’s plans to track airborne pollution across Michigan.
Michigan’s air monitoring plans for 2025 include special sampling for six months in Kalamazoo and Flint, as well as enhanced ozone monitoring in Holland. That area was picked because it frequently fails to meet federal air quality standards.
The state Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy says the monitoring will ensure air quality standards are met, identify pollution trends, and
support air pollution forecasting.
They are also seeking public comments about their plans to change elements of the Michigan ambient air monitoring network. The system includes 45 spots across the state with more than 100 monitors collecting data about pollutants such as ozone, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, lead, and fine particulate matter in the air.
