KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Mayor Bobby Hopewell has announced he will be running for reelection in November.
Hopewell has been on the Kalamazoo City Commission since 2003 and mayor since 2007. He is responsible for helping lead the city to the threshold of remarkable and innovative solutions to problems that are vexing urban areas nationwide.
He has overseen the adoption of priority-based budgeting and the recent approval of the Imagine Kalamazoo 2025 visioning project.
The pending creation of the Foundation for Excellence and the pursuit of a broad range of community improvement projects that it will fund means the job only partially done, which he acknowledges in the statement he issued announcing his campaign.
“Working together with my colleagues in government and with fellow citizens, community leaders, and neighbors — we’ve made important strides toward stabilizing our city financially and creating a cultural bright spot in Southwest Michigan.
