PORTAGE (WKZO-AM/FM) — Stryker Corporation held groundbreaking ceremonies at the site of their newest facility on Monday.
Quite a bit of site work has already taken place but the actual construction will begin on Wednesday, on their new $154 million global research and development center.
While the entrance is off Portage Road across from the Air Zoo, the actual site is some distance into the parcel.
The new facility will provide about a half-million square feet of new space for a state-of-the-art research and development lab and a bio-skills lab for the development of new products.
It will also provide space for sales and marketing, a customer experience center and a functioning showroom. They project the creation of 105 new jobs.
If all goes as planned, it will open in late 2019.
Stryker only intends to use a portion of the property for between Portage Road and Lover’s Lane for their facility. They plan to develop a number of other sites for other firms on the property, which used to be owned by Pfizer, and Pharmacia and Upjohn.
