The list of billion dollar weather disasters grew by one in August. NOAA says the 14 hour, 770 mile Midwest derecho produced $7.5 billion dollars in damage. Millions of acres of corn and soybeans were flattened by 100 mile per hour winds which roared along the path from South Dakota to Ohio August 10th. The derecho came in second only to Hurricane Laura’s $14 billion tag for damage this year. Other events on the costly list include spring tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in the Southeast last spring.
