KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety has named the victim of the 16th homicide in the city this year.
Friday at 8:55 p.m. officers responded to the report of a subject down in the 1300 block of Cameron Street. They found 43-year-old Kunta Tavarius Davis of lying on the ground and unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers and LIFE EMS paramedics rendered emergency medical aid and transported Davis to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
In a news release Monday, KDPS officials say the killing of Davis marks a grim milestone in Kalamazoo’s history as the 16th homicide investigated this year. The previous high water mark of 15 homicides in a calendar year occurred in 2020 and again in 2021.
They are asking anyone with information about this case to call the KDPS Criminal Investigation Division at (269)337-8139 or the Kalamazoo Silent Observer tip line at (269)343-2100.
