DOWAGIAC, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Police arrested a Dowagiac man early Wednesday morning, August 17 after discovering that he had stolen a car, and was transporting nearly 100 grams of methamphetamine inside that car.
Dowagiac Police Officers witnessed the vehicle, which they say was stolen out of Berrien County, entering the parking lot of the Baymont Inn on Amerihost Drive around 2:15 a.m. Once officers approached the vehicle, the 33-year-old suspect tried to escape on foot, throwing away a loaded handgun in the process.
Authorities say 91 grams of methamphetamine was discovered in the stolen vehicle.
The man was arrested on several charges to include: Possession of controlled substance; Possession with intent to deliver controlled substance; Possession of a concealed weapon; Possession of a stolen motor vehicle; Resisting and obstructing a police officer along with several counts of felony firearm.
The suspect is now lodged at the Cass County Jail.
His name is being withheld due to a pending arraignment in Cass County District Court.
