KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Kalamazoo Township Supervisor Ron Reid says they have received a long awaited report on what it would take to turn the U.S.131 Business loop into a full access highway interchange.
He made the announcement at Monday Night’s regular meeting of the Township Board.
Right now only traffic coming from the north, or headed north on U.S. 131 can use it. There is no southern access.
This document includes three possible designs for the highway interchange.
Reid says it could revitalize long dormant industrial sites that would finally have highway access to I-94, and Indiana.
Says the next part is finding the funding, which he says will be ‘a long slog’, but one he is willing to attempt.
Funding will be difficult because this is considered “new construction”. The state has been focused on funding existing roads for sometime because of limited resources..
