BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The groundbreaking for Battle Creek’s new Fire Station #2 was held Thursday at 201 North Washington Avenue.
It is a $25-million investment in infrastructure in the Cereal City and is designed to support firefighters and improve emergency response in the community.
The new station is part of a broader Fire Station Improvements initiative that also includes renovations to Fire Stations 1 and 6 and the construction of a new Fire Station 3.
Community leaders joined Battle Creek Fire Department leadership and Station No. 2 personnel, along with Mayor Mark Behnke and city commissioners Jenasia Morris and Paige Katsarsky-Smith, to mark the ceremonial start of construction.
The project is being delivered through partnerships with Driven Design and Schweitzer Construction. The city also worked with Bronson Health to acquire the project site.
City Manager Amanda Zimmerlin thanked the work of previous city administration and leadership, noting their efforts helped move the project forward to today’s milestone.
Construction will now begin on the new facility, with progress continuing in the months ahead as the city advances its fire station improvements initiative.
