DETROIT (WKZO)-In the previous 12 games the Detroit Tigers hit a total of four home runs. The Tigers matched that number in one game today against the Minnesota Twins as the Tigers exploded for 13 runs and beat the Twins 13-1.
Miguel Cabrera was 3-5 on the day with two home runs and three RBIs. Cabrera’s home runs came in the sixth and seventh inning. Nick Castellanos hit his third home run of the season in the sixth inning and Bryan Holaday hit his first home run of the season in the eighth inning. Castellanos had one RBI on the day and Holaday finished the day with three.
Other Tigers who had RBIs were Ian Kinsler, Yoenis Cespedes, Rajai Davis, and Jose Iglesias.
The Tigers also had a good pitching performance from starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez. Sanchez pitched eight innings giving up one run on five hits while walking one and striking out nine. Al Alburquerque pitched a scoreless ninth inning striking out one.
The Tigers now hit the road for a three game series against the St. Louis Cardinals before returning home Monday. The Tigers and Cardinals game will be on air at 7:45 pm on 590 WKZO.
Shane Greene (3-2 4.71 ERA) coming off a strong eight inning start last Sunday will toe the slab for the Tigers while Carlos Martinez (3-1 4.89 ERA) will take the mound for the Cardinals.
