LANSING (WKZO) — The State House wasted no time approving a bill that would prohibit local ordinances that mandate higher wages or work benefits than state or federal standards.
The day after in cleared committee, it was put up for a vote on the floor. Trade groups are pushing for statewide uniformity, while local government groups say that Michigan is not a one-size fits all state.
Kalamazoo Democratic Rep. Jon Hoadley voted against it, so did Battle Creek Republican John Bizon.
A similar proposal stalled in the Legislature last year.
The measure now goes to the Senate.
