KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley is reporting that a woman was killed early this morning when she was accidentally shot in the head by a 12-year-old playing with a shotgun.
The 28-year-old victim was a family friend who was temporarily staying in the home in the 700-block of Dwight Street.
Just before 6 a.m. Friday, Public Safety got the 911 call that she had been shot.
Apparently the mentally impaired boy who was playing with the shotgun while the family slept, was actually in another room and the blast went through a wall before striking the victim, who was sleeping in the living room.
It’s being called an accidental death for now but it remains under investigation.
The name of the victim will be withheld until family members are notified.
