KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man accused of driving drunk and killing a Western Michigan University student is headed toward a jury trial.
22-year-old Angel Hostiguin is charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and one count of failing to stop at an accident resulting in serious impairment or death.
According to MLive, Hostiguin waived his right to a preliminary examination Thursday, October 13 in Kalamazoo County District Court.
He’s accused of hitting and killing 21-year-old Western Michigan University student Kalyee Gansberg of Lisle, Illinois. She was found by officers in the 2700 block of West Michigan Avenue on Saturday, August 27, after being hit by Hostiguin around 2:30 a.m. She died later from her injuries.
According to court records, Hostiguin was granted a $50,000 cash or surety bond, which he has not yet posted.
