MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP (WKZO) — A second deer suffering from the highly contagious and deadly Chronic Wasting Disease has been found in Michigan.
The good news, if it can be called that, is that it was found in the same area, less than a mile from the spot where the first deer was found, in Meridian Township near Lansing.
The DNR has set up a CWD Management Zone including Clinton, Ingham and Shiawassee Counties.
Baiting and feeding of deer will be prohibited, and all deer taken in the zone will be checked by DNR researchers, and restrictions will be placed on the movement of carcasses from the zone.
The neurological disease can spread to mule deer, elk and moose, but not to humans.
