KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – OutFront Kalamazoo will hold their first Black Pride festival on August 29th in Bates Alley downtown.
The block party will feature signature cocktails, mocktails, and celebrate people of color within the LGBTQ+ community.
OutFront Kalamazoo officials say while Black trans activists have always led the fight against LGBTQ+ oppression, mainstream Pride celebrations “continue to erase this history and to center the experiences of white cisgender gay men.”
The organization needs as many as 50 volunteers to help with the set-up and tear down for the event, running the entrances, and other duties.
