KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — November 3rd will be a busy Election Day in Kalamazoo County. Some last minute additions will make it interesting as well.
This week the County Commission approved a millage request for one tenth of a mill to expand a successful County program to reduce homelessness for families with children.
It was a straight-line party 6 to 5 vote with the Democratic majority passing the measure.
If also approved by voters, the program would not only provide homeless families with a roof over their heads, but with the counseling and support programs to allow them to become self-sufficient and keep it there.
This week, petitions were certified in Portage that will ask voters to decriminalize marijuana, allowing adults over 21 to possess up to an ounce.
It’s the first voter initiative in Portage’s 51-year history.
That voter initiative will also appear on the November 3rd ballot.
