MICHIGAN CITY, IND. (WKZO) — Remember that black bear that worked its way down from Grand Haven to South Haven and just kept going south, working its way through Berrien County until it became the first bear sighted in northern Indiana in 144 years?
Well the novelty has passed, and the bear may have overstayed its welcome. .
The 2-year-old, 250-pound mammal has taken up residence in an area near Michigan City where the neighbors have lost several bird feeders, and a few have lost their patience and chased the bear from their yards.
And one Bee keeper says cleaned out his bee hives, eating 10 to 12 pounds of honey.
Wildlife Specialist Budd Ververka with the Indiana DNR says they are worried there is going to be an incident, as the bear has become more brazen as he makes himself at home.
Their plan is to trap the young male and take it back home to Mid-michigan where it belongs.
