PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Pennfield woman has been charged with two felonies in connection to the crash that killed her 8-year-old son back in March 2022, according to Calhoun County Court records.
The crash happened on Struwin Road near Poorman Road in Pennfield Township around 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 25.
Authorities say 28-year-old Kelsey Cronkhite was intoxicated when the car she was driving crashed into a tree and burst into flames. Her 8-year-old son and three other children were in the car at the time of the crash.
Her 4-year-old son was also hurt in the crash and taken to the hospital for serious injuries. Cronkhite was also taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
First responders attempted life-saving measures on the eight-year-old but pronounced him dead at the scene.
Court records show that Cronkhite was charged in July with operating under the influence causing death and operating under the influence causing serious injury.
She is scheduled for a preliminary examination in September.
