GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The 22-year-old man who was shot and killed by an Allegan County Sheriff’s deputy last week during a traffic stop had been working toward becoming a police officer.
Courtney Riva is the ex-girlfriend of Joseph Nagel and says she and his family are baffled as to how it happened. Riva says Nagel stopped his pursuit of police work at Grand Rapids Community College recently because he didn’t like guns.
She thinks the deputy “took advantage of his authority” and added Nagel was “not a confrontational guy whatsoever.”
