CONSTANTINE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – The cause of a Monday morning fire that took the lives of two children in St. Joseph County remains under investigation.
Constantine Fire Chief Mike Haydon says the structure fire in the 14000 block of Timm Road was reported to 911 at about 12:23 a.m. and that two children were inside.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police were the first to arrive and they found the structure was fully involved in flames.
They were unable to enter the structure. Fire crews arrived and quickly knocked down the flames. They then located the two victims.
Two other persons were treated at the scene for burns and smoke inhalation. There were no other injuries.
The names of the victims are not being released at this time.
The entire structure and the contents inside were destroyed. St. Joseph County Victims Services and the Red Cross were called in to assist the family.
No cause has been determined for the fire. The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division continues to investigate.
