KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — City, county and state police agencies investigating three shootings that left six dead in the Kalamazoo area on Saturday say they still don’t know what possessed the gunman to open fire.
Lt. Dale Hinz said investigators continue to have trouble establishing a motive, saying there still isn’t one at this stage.
“Everyone wants to know why and wants a motive established,” Hinz said. “It’s going to be some time before we’re going to be able to put a motive to this.”
An emotionless Jason Dalton was formally charged with six counts of open murder, two counts of attempted murder and eight gun felonies Monday, and Hinz says Dalton had a similar demeanor during his interrogation Sunday.
Hinz says Dalton hasn’t confessed, but, during questioning, did “take responsibility for taking lives.”
