EATON COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — Special patrols remain on the road because of a high incidence of drunk driving accidents that are seen at around this time of year.
The patrols began with St. Patrick’s Day and will continue through March Madness until just past the opening of the Major League Baseball season. One of those patrols in Eaton County spotted a vehicle on Waverly Road speeding up and slowing down, weaving from side-to-side and attempted a traffic stop.
The suspected drunk driver pulled off on a side road and appeared to be stopping, but instead sped off with the officer in pursuit.
The chase only lasted five blocks. The lead car went off the road off South Deerfield Street and slammed into a home, causing significant damage to the structure. The two occupants of the home were not injured, but the driver was.
The 29-year-old Lansing resident was admitted to a local hospital, but is expected to survive. He is expected to face a list of charges, including drunken driving, fleeing and eluding and driving on a suspended license.
Apparently, it wasn’t the first time they were caught driving drunk.
