GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller has assured the youngest victim of the shooting rampage in Kalamazoo that her gunman will be brought to justice.
“It’s important to make sure that someone involved in an incident like this understands that everything is being done to help keep them safe,” Fuller said.
He met 14-year-old Abigail Kopf for the first time Wednesday.
Jason Dalton, 45, is accused of killing six, including the Harper Creek Middle School student’s grandmother, in three separate incidents on Feb. 20.
Kopf was initially pronounced dead that day. She’s now at a rehabilitation center in Grand Rapids, where she’s speaking loudly and playing cards.
Kopf is expected to return home to Battle Creek in a few weeks.
A GoFundMe page set up to help offset the family’s medical expenses has ecipsed $66,000.
UPDATE – 12:40 a.m. Friday: A new photo of 14-year-old Abigail Kopf in physical therapy was posted to her GoFundMe page. According to the update posted Thursday night, the child is finding eating to be tiring.
