GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO-AM) — Abigail Kopf and her family have been told by the therapists and doctors at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Center that she can go home to Battle Creek next Wednesday.
The 14-year-old, who was struck by gunfire outside a Cracker Barrel in Texas Township, still has a lot of work and some surgery left before she is considered recovered.
She will still have a feeding tube and need daily therapy to improve her speech and to counter partial paralysis in her left arm. She will also eventually need reconstructive surgery to replace a missing piece of her skull.
Still, Kopf has made a remarkable recovery. She was initially declared dead on the night of the shooting.
The family has opened a new GoFundMe page to help offset post-release expenses.
