PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — Homeowners scattered all over Portage have turned their curb lawns into parking spaces. Some of the pads have existed for decades.
Technically, that property belongs to the city. Any use of it without city permission is considered encroachment.
Now that Portage wants to repave Ringdale Plat, several homeowners have been notified the pads have to go.
Residents aren’t happy about it.
City Manager Lawrence Schaffer said the city only enforces that law when it has to. He said, now that they want to pave the streets, the time has come.
The issue will be discussed again May 10.
