KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff Rick Fuller has formally announced that he will be running for a third term.
He has been with the department for his entire 28-year career and said it’s hard to replace that kind of experience.
Fuller, a Democrat, said it would also be hard to replace the kind of positive experiences he’s had as Sheriff since 2008, and the associations, networks and contacts that have developed in that time. Fuller said goals for his upcoming term include how to implement body cameras and to finish the decades-long drive to establish a consolidated dispatch center in Kalamazoo County.
Fuller will be challenged in the Democratic primary by Kalamazoo County Deputy Thomas Swafford.
There are also two candidates running in the Republican primary: County commissioner and Augusta Police Chief Jeff Heppler and Robert Munn of Kalamazoo, who also has local law enforcement experience.
