KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Michigan will go to the polls today, mostly to decide school funding issues.
In fact, of the 112 ballot items scattered across the state, 93 of them are bond issue requests or renewals for school improvements.
Statewide, there are three transit-related proposals and eight that deal with law enforcement.
Kalamazoo County has one of each.
In fact, most of the unique ballot questions are on ballots in this region.
The village of Richland will consider a one-of-a-kind dissolution issue Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Albion voters will decide the only school annexation issue on Michigan ballots. If they vote yes, Marshall schools would take over the Albion School District and Michigan would cover the former district’s debt.
Jackson County voters are being asked to hike the surcharge on phone lines to raise money to upgrade 911 dispatch.
Laketown Township in Allegan County has an $8.6 million bond issue on the ballot that, if approved, would bring high-speed internet to the rural area.
Polls are open until 8 p.m.
