KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Seventeen new homes and three remodels will be featured in the 2016 Kalamazoo Parade of Homes, which gets underway Friday.
Keith Crowell with the Homebuilders Association of West Michigan says local buyers want builders to make living areas more flexible. The parade will feature that trend prominently.
“Think of Grandma’s house, where you had all of these individual rooms,” Crowell said. “Everything now is just open floor plans, so you can move the furniture around and change living space into dining space.”
Eye-catching kitchens are also in vogue.
“The kitchen is like center-stage now,” Crowell said. “They’re a lot of showing off now that comes from the kitchen because it’s almost part of the living room.”
The event runs through the June 18.
Tickets can be purchased for $15. Reduced-price $12 tickets can be purchased at Lake Michigan Credit Union and Harding’s Friendly Market locations.
