LANSING (WKZO-AM) — The active shooter alert system proposed by local legislators following the mass-shooting in Kalamazoo in February that left six dead has now cleared both the House and Senate and is on its way to the governor’s desk, where house co-sponsor Jon Hoadley said they have receieved every indication it will be signed.
It will work much like the Amber Alert for missing children or the Silver Alert for missing seniors.
Local media outlets and cell phone users will be notified if they’re in the immediate area of an active shooter.
Hoadley, D-Kalamazoo, said it will save lives. He also said the alert has not been assigned a color.
