KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A church in downtown Kalamazoo has planned a celebration to help the local cycling community mourn after five bicyclists were killed by a pickup driver Tuesday evening.
“Peace-Pedal-Pray Ride for Kalamazoo” will take place at The River on Walbridge Street. Pastor Dori Beltz is a coordinator.
“I’ve experienced a lot of cyclist discouragement and grief over the situation,” Beltz said. “We were led, as a church family, to offer up the church as a place to bring the community together.”
It starts at 6 p.m. Sunday with a cookout, games and prayer.
“Most of the event will take place outside, the weather looks like it’ll be fabulous,” Beltz said. “We’re hoping for hundreds and we can feed 500 folks.”
It will culminate with a 7 p.m. memorial ride to the crash site on North Westnedge Avenue in Cooper Township.
