GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO-AM) — A Three Rivers man who has spent more of his life in prison than out, is going back to a cell after he robbed a credit union in Kalamazoo last year.
U.S. Attorneys say 73-year-old Simon Gutierrez entered the Consumers Credit Union on Portage Street in Kalamazoo last July with a Jimmy Johns box, claiming he was making a delivery. He then pulled out two handguns and robbed the place.
Thursday he was he was given 8-years after pleading guilty to federal charges. He has spent 40-years in prisons in several states for a criminal career that began in the 60’s.
If he outlives this sentence, he will remain under court supervision for five years after that.
