WATERVLIET (WKZO-AM) — A Berrien County Sheriff’s sergeant required medical treatment and another driver has been hospitalized in Kalamazoo following a multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 94 near Watervliet.
The sergeant was escorting a slower moving semi to the side of the road when his SUV was rear-ended by a pickup. That sent the patrol vehicle into the side of one semi, and then crashing like a pinball into another tractor trailer.
The names and condition of the victims has not been released.
The driver of the pickup is being tested for substance abuse.
I-94 eastbound was shut down for nearly three hours to investigate the crash, and remove the wreckage. Michigan State Police are investigating.
