LANSING (WKZO-AM) — It’s been two years in the making without agreement, but now they have finally reached a compromise on a new energy reform package. It looked like a Christmas tree with something under it for just about everyone.
The utilities get some concessions on choice providers. Choice providers got some guarantees that lower rates would still be an option.
There could also be lower rates for regular utility customers and the percentage of energy the utility’s will be expected to get from renewable sources will rise from 10 to 15 percent by 2022.
Energy Committee Chair, and Lawton Republican Aric Nesbitt supports them. Kalamazoo Democrat John Hoadley says it was a satisfying compromise.
Many are crediting the Governor for sending in a team last week to work out the compromise that finally passed on the final day of the lame duck session.
