BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Battle Creek have announced that two missing area children believed to be with their parents have been located safely.
Previously, Battle Creek Police had notified the public that 7-year-old Bentley Dunkelberger and 9-year-old Karley Dunkelberger were believed to be with their parents, Dennis and Rebecca Dunkelberger. As last reported, Police were investigating the possibility of the family being in Colorado.
Police say the parents and children were located in Nebraska On Tuesday, February 4 at approximately 2:00 PM.
Nebraska State Police stopped the Dunkelberger family on the I-80 highway. Troopers located the family and stopped them without incident.
Michigan State Police helped in locating the family and coordinating with out of state agencies. The Michigan Dept of Health and Human Services (Children’s Protective Services) was working with Nebraska authorities to bring the children back to Michigan.
Police say that the mother, Rebecca was arrested on unrelated warrants while the father, Dennis was not charged.
Custody of the children will be determined at a later court hearing once the kids are back in Battle Creek.
“The Battle Creek Police Dept would like to thank all the other law enforcement, media, other agencies and the public for their help in locating Karley and Bentley and ensuring their safe return,” Police said in a statement.
Police were concerned about the welfare of the children due to court orders not being followed by the parents.
