MICHIGAN (WKZO AM/FM) — A long-awaited portion of Michigan’s economy is reopening.
Personal care services like hair, massage, nails and tattoo parlors can reopen across the state starting June 15th.
That means Michiganders will be able to get long-awaited haircuts after salons were closed for several months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order back on June 5th allowing for this next step as long as coronavirus numbers continued to trend downward.
All of these businesses will have to follow strict safety protocols like required mask wearing, social distancing whenever possible, and proper disinfecting between each customer.
Some salons are implementing temperature checks and requiring that customers remain in their car until their appointment while some other business owners are just waiting to see how the first openings work before they decide to reopen.
Specifics on the executive order and the safety precautions being taken can be found at michigan.gov/coronavirus.
A majority of the state still remains in phase four of the governor’s “MI Safe Start Plan,” but Whitmer said that she expects the entire state will advance to phase five in the coming weeks.
“As we continue to slowly reopen different parts of our state, it’s critical that we listen to the experts and follow the medical science to avoid a second wave of infections. The good news is that we are headed in the right direction, and if the current trajectory continues, I anticipate we’ll be able to announce more sectors reopening in the coming weeks. We owe it to our front line workers to keep doing our part,” Whitmer stated.
Earlier, the governor said her goal is to shift the entire state to phase five before the 4th of July.
