LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer is ordering more business closures in hopes of preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
On Saturday she signed an executive order saying that all facilities that provide non-essential personal care services must temporarily close.
According to her statement, this includes “hair, nail, tanning, massage, spa, tattoo, body art and piercing services, and similar services that require individuals to be within 6 feet of each other.”
However, the order does not apply to services necessary for medical treatment as determined by a licensed medical provider.
The order takes effect no later than 9 a.m. on March 22nd and remains in effect until April 13th at 11:59 p.m.
This comes after Governor Whitmer canceled all events with more than 50 people until April 5th and ordered the closure of all bars, restaurants, and many other businesses in hopes of slowing the spread of the virus, but take-out and delivery services are still allowed.
In her recent statement the governor wrote, “COVID-19 has created an unprecedented challenge to our way of life as Michiganders. That’s why we are making decisions based on science and facts to protect public health and keep people safe. I know these changes will be hard, but they are temporary, and they are necessary to slow the spread of the virus and help save lives.”
An ongoing list of cancellations and closures due to COVID-19 can be found here.
