BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — An escapee from the Calhoun County Corrections Center is back in custody after getting all the way to the State Capital.
They say 43-year-old Edwin Lamarr Walker was on a work detail in the jail kitchen when he went out through an emergency exit.
They estimate he was missing for over 25-minutes before anyone noticed.
They determined that he had been in contact with a relative in Lansing and that a U-Haul truck was stolen in the area at about the time of his escape.
Officers in Lansing staked out the home of his relative and were there to take him back into custody when they say he drove up in the stolen rental truck.
There was reportedly a struggle and Walker requiring that Walker receive treatment at a Lansing Hospital.
He had been serving a year on a drug count. He now faces the possibility of a much longer sentence because of the escape and any other crimes he committed while he was free in Calhoun and Ingham Counties. .
